Tongkat Ali: The Root From Southeast Asia
Tongkat ali is a root from the rainforests of Southeast Asia, and its name is an old walking stick story.
Where it grows
Tongkat ali comes from Eurycoma longifolia, a tall, thin tree that grows in Malaysia, Indonesia and nearby countries.
Names and meanings
- Tongkat ali is Malay, often translated as Ali's walking stick.
- In Indonesia the root is called pasak bumi, earth's nail.
- Both names point to the long, straight root.
How an extract is made
Roots are dug up, dried and ground. Makers then soak the powder in a liquid and concentrate it. A 100:1 extract means about 100 parts of root made 1 part of extract.
On the label
VapoFil lists 10 mg of tongkat ali extract per serving, and the label says that equals about 1,000 mg of dry root.* Beside it, the label also lists horny goat weed as a 10:1 extract.
